MuftiTalk ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website at muftitalk.com and the MuftiTalk mobile applications for users and scholars. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information when you visit our website, join the launch waitlist, apply as a scholar, or use the MuftiTalk apps.

By using our website, apps, or submitting a form, you agree to this Privacy Policy. Please also read our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal data.

Who We Are

MuftiTalk connects Muslims with verified Islamic scholars for consultations via chat, voice, and video. For privacy-related questions or requests, contact us at info@muftitalk.com.

Information We Collect

Launch waitlist

When you submit the "Get Notified" form on our homepage, we collect the details you provide, which may include:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Country (optional)
  • Whether you are interested as a user or scholar
  • Preferred platform (iOS, Android, or both)
  • An optional message
  • Your consent to be contacted about the launch

Scholar applications

When you apply via our Join as Scholar form, we collect the information you submit, which may include:

  • Identity: legal full name (for verification only — not shown publicly), public display name, email, phone number, country, and city
  • Credentials: languages spoken, Islamic education background, specializations, years of experience, and current position
  • Profile: short bio, weekly availability, preferred consultation modes (chat, voice, or video), and optional online profile links
  • References: optional reference name, relationship, and contact details
  • Account security: a password, which we store only as a secure one-way hash — we never store plain-text passwords
  • Uploads: optional certification documents (PDF or images, up to 3 files) and an optional profile photo
  • Consent: confirmation that your information is accurate and that you accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service

MuftiTalk mobile apps

When you create an account or use the MuftiTalk customer or scholar mobile apps, we collect and process information needed to provide consultations, payments, notifications, and support. This may include:

Account profile

  • Name and display name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Profile avatar / photo
  • Bio or about text (especially for scholar profiles)

Authentication

  • Email and password (passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes)
  • Google Sign-In, and Apple Sign-In where offered
  • Social login identifiers provided by those providers (for example, provider user IDs and verified email)

Chat and consultations

  • Messages you send or receive in consultations
  • Related metadata such as timestamps, conversation participants, delivery or read status, and consultation type

Voice and video calls

  • Call session metadata (for example, start/end time, duration, participants, and connection status)
  • We do not store call audio or video content by default, unless we explicitly state otherwise for a specific feature
  • Real-time media is processed in transit by our voice/video provider (Agora) to deliver the call

Wallet and payments

  • Wallet balances and payment transaction records (amount, currency, status, and payment provider references)
  • Payments are processed by payment providers (for example, Razorpay when enabled). We do not store full card numbers

Device and push notifications

  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) push tokens
  • Device platform (iOS or Android) and app version
  • Approximate country derived from network headers (not precise GPS location)
  • Masked IP address (we do not store your full IP in admin dashboards)
  • Last active time and live connection status for presence features

Photos

  • Photos you choose to upload for your profile avatar

AI features (Noor AI)

  • If you use Noor AI, we process the conversation content you submit and the responses generated so we can provide the feature and improve reliability and safety

Camera and microphone

  • The apps may request camera and microphone access for live voice/video calls and for taking or selecting profile photos
  • Camera and microphone streams for calls are processed on-device and in the live call session; they are not uploaded as continuous recordings to MuftiTalk by default

We do not collect your device marketing name (for example “John’s iPhone”) or precise city location from GPS. Session and device metadata is used for operations and security, is not shown on public profiles, and is retained only as long as needed before removal or anonymization.

Technical and automatic information (website)

When you submit a form or visit our website, our servers may automatically record limited technical data, such as:

  • Date and time of submission
  • IP address (stored in masked form where applicable, e.g. last octet hidden)
  • Browser type and device information (user agent)
  • Basic server logs needed to operate and secure the site

We use this information to prevent spam, abuse, and fraud, and to maintain the security of our services.

Cookies and analytics

Our marketing website does not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers. Your browser may store standard technical data (such as cached fonts or icons loaded from CDNs). If we introduce cookies or analytics in the future, we will update this policy before doing so.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Create and manage your MuftiTalk account
  • Provide chat, voice, and video consultations between users and scholars
  • Process wallet top-ups, consultation payments, and related transaction records
  • Send push notifications and transactional emails about your account and consultations
  • Operate AI features such as Noor AI when you choose to use them
  • Send launch notifications and relevant updates about MuftiTalk
  • Review scholar applications and verify credentials
  • Contact applicants about the status of their application
  • Prepare and maintain approved scholar accounts
  • Understand interest in the platform and improve our services
  • Respond to your questions and support requests
  • Protect our website, apps, users, and applicants from fraud, spam, and misuse
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

Scholar application documents are reviewed only by our verification team. They are not published on the public website. If your application is approved, only information you choose to display in the app (such as your display name, bio, and profile photo) will be shown to users.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal information based on:

  • Your consent — when you tick consent checkboxes on our waitlist or scholar application forms, or enable optional features
  • Contract / service delivery — to provide the MuftiTalk apps and consultations you request
  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve our website and apps, and to review scholar applications fairly
  • Legal obligations — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law

You may withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

How We Share Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers — trusted vendors that help us host our website and apps, store data, send emails and push notifications, process payments, deliver real-time calls, and operate our backend infrastructure
  • Other users of the service — for example, your display name, profile photo, and messages shared with a scholar or user during a consultation
  • Verification — contacting references you provide, where necessary to verify scholar credentials
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of MuftiTalk, our users, or others
  • Business changes — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections

Third-Party Services and Processors

Depending on how you use MuftiTalk, we may use the following categories of third-party processors:

  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — push notifications
  • Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In — authentication when you choose social login
  • Agora — real-time voice and video call media in transit
  • Payment gateway provider — for example, Razorpay when enabled, to process payments
  • Hosting and infrastructure: Fly.io (API hosting), Neon Postgres (database), and Cloudflare (website delivery / CDN)
  • Google Fonts / Cloudflare CDN — typography and static assets on the marketing website
  • Email services — confirmation, verification, and notification emails

These providers process data according to their own privacy policies when their services are used. Form and app data you submit is transmitted over HTTPS to MuftiTalk-controlled servers where applicable.

Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls for application review and admin tools, and rate limiting on public forms. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain waitlist, scholar application, and account data for as long as needed to:

  • Provide the MuftiTalk service and manage your account
  • Notify you about the launch and manage your registration
  • Review and process scholar applications
  • Maintain records required for verification, security, financial, or legal compliance

When data is no longer needed for these purposes, we delete or anonymize it, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Uploaded documents that are not needed after a decision is made may be deleted sooner upon request.

Account Deletion

You can delete your MuftiTalk account at any time:

Deletion anonymizes or removes personal data associated with your account. Some records (for example, payment or financial transaction history, or information we must keep for legal, security, or compliance reasons) may be retained as required by law. After deletion you will no longer be able to sign in with that account.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information (including via in-app or web account deletion)
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

To exercise these rights, email info@muftitalk.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. You may unsubscribe from launch emails using the link in our messages or by contacting us directly.

Children's Privacy

MuftiTalk's website and mobile apps are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information to us or created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

International Data Transfers

MuftiTalk serves users internationally. Your information may be stored or processed in countries other than your own, including where our hosting and service providers operate. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place when data is transferred across borders.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our website and apps evolve. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the website or apps after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
